Diversion

For Ms. Noel

I watched a black movie

with a black friend.

But does it really matter

the color our skin?

We sat in my living room

and watched it together.

We saw hardships and hard times

while sitting on leather.

While eating popcorn

and drinking a coke,

we watched black people

mistreated by white folk.

Some scenes were disturbing,

but it needs to be shown.

Its hard to watch

even in your own home.

We need to remember

lest we forget,

but I hate that we call it

entertainment.

	Sheila发表: Great poem! I'm one of those people who believe we can always learn something valuable from whatever we choose as our form of entertainment. While we can sit and enjoy the plotlines, character portrayals, special effects, and other things, we can learn at the same time. I think the difference between a good movie (or televison show, song, etc) and a great one is the great ones combine the entertainment with a great moral. In a time in history when most people want to forget or alter the truth, I appreciate those who display the truth so, as you said, we don't forget. 7 月 6 日
