I love you too - A Poem

I love you too

By: Theresa Richardson

Say it like you mean it

You calmly utter.

Is true love fading

Because my heart no longer flutters?

Say it like you mean it

You jokingly reply.

Is true love fading

Because we didn’t kiss goodbye?

Say it like you mean it

You snidely say.

Is true love fading

Because I didn’t call all day?

Say it like you mean it

You angrily shout.

Is true love fading

Because we need to air it out?

Say it like you mean it

You desperately cry.

Is true love fading

Because I admitted to a lie?

***This poem does not reflect my marriage,

but is just an observation on how people can say,

“I love you” and their mate will reply, “I love you, too”

out of habit or without true meaning.***

I like the poem. I like the disclaimer too...I often have to explain poems to family members who worry that I am writing about myself or someone in my family.

I love your poem... and I laughed when I read your disclaimer. Not because it was funny, but ya know - because inevitably someone will think there is a deep personal meaning behind it. :)

Have you ever thought about publishing your poetry and putting it in a book?

I really like your unique style.

Wooh, I am glad this poem doesn't reflect your marrage. :)
 Thought provoking indeed.
I always tell my husband I love him , when leaving to go somewhere and I do mean it. Steve always walks me to the van as I am leaving to go to work, and Him and Jesse , always come out to greet me when I come home from work. He has done this since we got married thirteen and a half years ago. He shows me everday how much he loves me by his actions.
I think actions speak louder than words but both are important and must come from the heart.
We should not get into the habit of taking each other for granted for we know not what tomorrow may bring.
Great Poem Theresa.
Blessings, Dianne

This is great! Wonderful job! It's sad but true. So many people say "I love you" only out of habit. The weird part is, the more I learn about what REAL love is, it gets easier to tell when people are only saying that because it's "what's expected".

Awesome - thought provoking - for spouses yes, but for children and for God as well!

Not to take for granted those who we love the most is what it's speaking to me of.  Good stuff!  Thanks for sharing and have a pleasant weekend.  Hugs, Deb
